600th Duo Discus

On Wednesday the 31.3.10 we delivered the 600th Duo Discus to the Glider Club LSV Kreis Segeberg. After our obligatory and intensive operating briefing, Tilo Holighaus and Biggo Berger handed over the glider to the members of the Club LSV Kreis Segeberg.
600 aircraft of one type is a respectable number which makes us very proud. It isn't anymore the first version of the Duo. We built with beginning of 2005 the Duo Discus X version with a lot of improvements like a suspended undercarriage, Maughmer winglets and more effective airbrakes.  In combination with the trailing edge flaps the new airbrake system it is a big win for outlandings - specially for pilots with little experience. Since the beginning of 2009, the Duo Discus XL is now available with a complete new designed and longer cockpit. The feedback from our customers regarding its ergonomics, safety and roominess was overwhelming positive.  Furthermore we improved our airbrake system again and we are able to say that this high performance glider is now safe landable for pilots in nearly every stage of training. 
The „DUO“ has many friends. The top performance is only one aspect of many others. For example the docile flight characteristics at the forefront, which makes this glider to a real ‚feel at home aircraft’. Also it is the manoeuvrability and agility which make flying on the ridges and in the mountains much more easier and relaxed. These simple and safe flight characteristics are the motivation for more and more clubs to introduce this two seater into their fleet and thereby take advantage of this remarkable spectrum with a single aircraft. The Duo Discus XL tolerates the harsh club life with ease and the easy ground handling is a relief for the members. More and more clubs and professional flying schools have discovered this big range of using. From beginner training up to the ambitious cross country flights is this DUO Discus XL the first choice. And the best is that this using safes money for the clubs. 
Furthermore, the aircraft is available since for many years already with a sustainer engine, known as the ‚Turbo’. The opportunity of buying a price and weight favourable ‚Turbo’ is being realised by many clubs and private aircraft owners and makes a lot of pilots very relaxed flying far away from home with the knowledge to come safe back home without lifts. 
The Duo Discus was at his maiden flight in the year 1995 the most modern double seater sailplane in his class. Because our continuous model upgrading the Duo Discus is in the year 2010 without any doubts still one of the most modern sailplanes in the world. His extended operation range from the beginner training up to record flights is one of the reasons that this elegant glider will be also successful in the future too.
