The Discus-2c's modern wing concept combines latest scientific insight with year of experience in the development of 18 m gliders. The result is a glider that combines agile and harmless flight characteristics with gliding performance reserved to open class gliders a few years ago.
Thanks to the perfect control balance and the harmonic gliding characteristics, you'll feel comfortable and relaxed the first moment you'll fly a Discus-2c. Easy to use and numerous possible uses make the Discus-2c the glider of choice for routined competition pilots, the outstanding everyday glider for serious, ambitious cross-country pilots or the demanded single-seater in a gliding club.
Broad perfomance spectrum.
The maximum take-off mass, which was increased from the Discus-2 to 565 kg, permits wing loads from 31 to 50 kg/m². In combination with the 15m wingtips, this results in an unbelievably broad usage spectrum.
Outer wing / Maughmer Winglets
The out wing was developed in close cooperation with Dr. Karl-Heinz Horstmann (wing geometry, profiles) and Prof. Dr. Mark Maughmer (new winglet). As with the Ventus-2cx outer wing development, the cross examination of ideas and findings resulted in an optimally tuned unity between outer wing and winglet. Positive experience gained with the Ventus-2cx outer wing could be adopted directly into the Discus-2c's outer wing.
The large ailerons provide for an above-average roll rate right back to the lower end of the speed range. The perfectly harmonized controls allow even the irregular pilot to thermal effortlessly without many corrections. The reward of this combination between outer wing, Maughmer winglets and the proven Discus-2 airfoil is an above-average and easy to acquire rate of climb, combined with the gain in high-speed cruise known from the Ventus-2cx.
The new elevator uses the same low drag airfoil from Prof. Loek Boermans as the proven Ventus-2cx elevator. With its advantageous double-trapeze planform lengthened to suit the 18 m wings, the following advantages could be achieve:
- Performance increase due to thinner airfoil with lower drag
- Increased elevator sensitivity
- Less bug catching due to thinner airfoil with smaller leading edge radius
In conjunction with the increased maximum take-off weight, substantial reinforcement was added to the canopy frame and the side walls of the cockpit. Newest scientific insight, coupled with the experience gained from the total rescue system, were integrated into this new production fuselage. The result: Increased pilot safety in the cockpit area.

Hydraulic disc brakes allow a better adjustment and a higher brake power, even on difficult landing grounds.
Installing the Tost Penta wheel allows a mass reduction of about 40% compared to the Classic version and thanks to the asymmetric splitting of the wheel, the tire mounting is very easy. The hydraulic brake calliper guarantees best brake power.
The modification is classified as Limited Pilot Owner Maintenance according to M.A.803 and can be executed by the pilot/ owner.
With little effort, these out wings convert the 18-meter sailplane into a fully-fledged 15-meter glider.
For single seaters, only compatible with 18m wing span. Especially for self-launching sailplanes, the wing tip wheels ease the starting.
In case of top-heaviness, the tail tank can be filled with water to improve the flight quality.
Avoids cracking due to low temperatures as well as yellowing of the surface

The Front Electric Sustainer (FES) electrical engine now also provides the Discus-2c with an environment-friendly, silent and intuitive to use insurance agains unwanted outlandings. Starting immediately and almost impossible to operate wrongly, this system - in combination with the Discus-2c's perfect control balance and well-known harmonic flight characteristics - provides the ideal solution for both ambitious competitive pilots and day-to-day usage in a gliding club.
