Exciting races, impressive flying performances and a deserving winner: Mario Kiessling in the Ventus won this year's 18-meter class championship in impressive style.
The 18-meter class is known for fast races with the latest high-performance gliders. In the battle for the prestigious title, six of the 33 participants opted for the Ventus from Schempp-Hirth. In the end, it was not only Mario Kiessling who triumphed in the overall standings with a Ventus - four of the six competition days were also won by a Ventus pilot. Average speeds of up to 136 km/h were achieved.
In changeable weather conditions, the 33 participants - a mixture of well-known title contenders and promising newcomers - completed exciting cross-country flights around the Burg Feuerstein site in Franconia. Of the 12 possible scoring days, six could ultimately be flown. The competition could be followed not only via the competition website, but also on various livestream platforms. The German Aero Club (DAeC) also offered a live broadcast with commentary, providing exciting insights and assessments from experienced pilots. The approaches of the elegant aircraft could also be seen live; viewers were also given further exciting impressions in interviews with the participants.
