Closer ties with our customers, better service, and another important step toward the future: Schempp-Hirth Service is expanding its presence with a new service location at the Oerlinghausen Airfield.

Closer to our customers in northern Germany and northern Europe

With our new service station in Oerlinghausen, we aim to be even more accessible to our customers in northern Germany and Northern Europe. This location will work closely with our main facility at the Kirchheim/Teck-Nabern airfield and effectively complement our existing range of services. There, we offer maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for gliders and motor gliders—naturally for Schempp-Hirth aircraft, but also for models from other manufacturers. We also aim to be a reliable local partner for the area’s flying clubs in all matters related to the maintenance of their aircraft.

Takeover of LTB-Krane Operations

The facility at the Oerlinghausen airfield has been operated by Johannes Krane under the name LTB-Krane. After many years of dedicated service, Johannes Krane is now handing over his business to new owners due to his age. We are very pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with him regarding the takeover, which will allow us to continue the long-standing tradition of maintenance at this location and further expand it as part of our service network.

We would also like to thank the Oerlinghausen Airfield Association, which was involved in the discussions and helped pave the way for this transition.

The Path to the New Service Station: Approval and Transition Period

Taking over a maintenance facility involves a meticulous and regulatory-intensive process. We are currently expanding our certification as a maintenance facility from the German Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) to include the new location in Oerlinghausen. Only after this approval is granted can we begin the phased implementation of our organization and processes on-site.

Until the LBA approval is granted, Johannes Krane will continue to manage his location as usual. Even after that, he will remain with us as site manager until we are able to recruit someone new for this job. In this way, we ensure continuous operations and can take over our processes step by step without interrupting service operations.

We expect to be able to commence regular operations under Schempp-Hirth Service GmbH starting in mid-2027.

A New Location—Many New Opportunities

With our new Service Station in Oerlinghausen, we are strengthening our service infrastructure and creating additional capacity for maintenance, repair, and servicing. This is not just about new facilities: We want to continue developing the location over the long term, optimize processes, and offer our customers reliable and personalized service. And that is exactly why we are looking for new team members.

We’re Looking for New Team Members

We have already posted a job opening on our website for the position of Site Manager in Oerlinghausen to succeed Johannes Krane.

In addition, we are seeking technical staff to assist with the setup and subsequent day-to-day operations of our new facility, focusing on the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gliders and motor gliders.

If you’re interested in helping shape this venture from the very beginning and taking on responsibility for a modern service facility in the gliding industry, we look forward to receiving your application via E-Mail.
