Realising Joint Goals with new Arcus "20"

Whether clubs aim for achieving OLC top positions or private pilot teams plan record flights, competition results or interesting safari flights – the Arcus provides the ideal means to put these ideas into practice.

A joint flight experience results in twice the joy and shared success. Two pilots can often achieve more than one on their own. The Arcus will stretch your horizon and re-define your gliding experience, be it as a pure glider, with a Turbo sustainer engine system or self-launching.

Arcus "20" Edition, the Enhanced and Improved Arcus.

With the Arcus "20" Edition comes the completely redeveloped, smaller, thinner and therefore less resistant elevator increased performance, catches less bugs and facilitates trimming in the higher speed range.

The winglets newly developed together with Dr. Mark Maughmer improve performance and the already legendary flight characteristics of the Arcus. New bugwiper garages reduce drag - and the bugwipers will now always be tidy.

With all of these measures, in combination with the optional slim canopy, the overall performance of the Arcus could be significantly increased.

Motorised versions of the Arcus can now take off with up to 850 kg. The additional 50 kg that can be added for even better high- speed performance will hardly be noticed by pilots in take-off or when thermaling.

Easier Operation.

The electric retractable undercarriage and its intelligent control now fitted as standard makes retracting the wheel quick and easy. The landing gear is now easily extended and retracted by a switch. The robust basic construction has been deliberately retained.

An independent, autonomous emergency system bypasses all sensors and a separate, always charged and monitored buffer battery still allows manual extension even if the electronics or the main battery should fail.

A propeller stopper and the new ILEC engine control unit with large colour display make operating the system child’s play even in difficult situations. In case of problems, clear text messages provide comprehensive assistance.

Self-sealing water inlet valves now allow to lay down a wing, so comfortable, autonomous taxiing for take-off becomes also possible with filled water ballast.

Cockpit for Top Performance.

Most Arcus pilots spend many hours per flight on the plane. Comfort and ergonomics are therefore essential. In cooperation with Ottenwälder und Ottenwälder, a leading industrial design agency, the Arcus cockpit was given a complete review. The interior now features a modern, technical- elegant carbon fibre finish.

The new front seat backrest is infinitely adjustable at any time, providing more comfort and additional space in the front seat. Newly created ergonomic handles improve the handling of essential controls such as flaps, air brakes and engine.

The checklists and data tables previously affixed to the side panels have been collected and relocated into a booklet that is magnetically fixed near each seat. This makes them more accessible and at the same time increases comfort and safety.

The redesigned, consistent and non-reflective labels were also reduced to a minimum amount. This gives the cockpit a tidier appearance, provides more clarity and increases the pilots’ power of concentration.
